Wingspan 37-48 mm. The name comes from the characteristic green scaling along the white veins on the underside of the hindwings. Flies from April to October in 2 generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly.. The species is common and can be found almost anywhere. It is seen mostly in the plantation and the summer-house area, though, where it visits all kinds of flowers for nectar in a calm flight. The caterpillar’s foodplants are various crucifers, e.g. Garlic Mustard and Cuckooflower. Overwinters as a pupa on walls, stones, branches and the like.
