Wingspan 48-60 mm. Flies in the plantation from late June to early August in one generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly.. Keeps to woodland with Honeysuckle and Bramble. Has a very elegant, almost gliding flight a couple of metres up, to and from the Brambles, where it takes nectar. The eggs are laid on Honeysuckle, where it overwinters as a caterpillar. The species is considered relatively rare in Denmark and is most widespread on Lolland, Falster and Møn.
