Wingspan 14–18 mm. Recognised by its very long antennae and metallic golden-green forewings. Flies from April to June in one generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly. along woodland edges, in clearings and in gardens where the fallen leaves of the caterpillar's food plants are left to lie. Seen in the plantation and around the summer houses. Eggs are usually laid on oak, but also on beech, birch and hazel. The caterpillar pupates at the end of October in a small “nest” of withered leaves on the ground.
