Wingspan 25-33 mm. Common throughout Denmark, flying in 2 to 3 generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly. from early May to late September. Found especially in unfertilised, open and flower-rich places. A frequent visitor to the dike and the summer-house area. Flies steadily and fast close to the ground and visits many different flowers. Lives in colonies – although the males may wander a little. The caterpillar feeds on plants of the pea family – clovers among them – and overwinters on the foodplant near the ground.
