Wingspan 32-45 mm. Flies from June to August in one long generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly.. Very common, flying in the woodland clearings of the plantation and in the summer-house area. Prefers tall grass and is especially attracted to Bramble thickets. The flight is slow and bouncing. Basks in the morning and evening with its wings spread wide, but during the day it is mostly seen with its wings closed. The eggs are dropped more or less at random on various grasses, and it overwinters as a caterpillar.
