Wingspan 29-38 mm. The largest blue in the area. Flies in the plantation in one generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly. from early June to late July. Seen along paths and on fallow land where Tufted Vetch, the species’ host plant, grows. On the plant it takes nectar and sunbathes, and from here the male also chases females to mate. The caterpillar overwinters by the host plant. The species is declining in general, and the plantation is its only – but stable – habitat on Falster.
