Wingspan 24–33 mm. Flies in 2 generation A butterfly flies in 2 generations when the year’s first newly emerged adults (1st generation) bring a new “brood” (“children”) capable of flight into the world in the same year. With 3 generations there are “grandchildren” as well in the same year. The number of generations determines in how many months of the year we can see the butterfly. from April to September and is seen in the plantation and around the summer houses. In late summer it now and then visits Tansy and heather on the dike. It can be hard to get close to, as its flight is very roving and often takes place at treetop height. In flight it shows a pale bluish sheen because of its light blue upperside. Eggs are laid on Alder Buckthorn, Purging Buckthorn, Ivy or Holly. The species overwinters as a pupa near the ground.
