Drinker

Wingspan 45–65 mm. A large and common moth – the colour varies from pale yellow to dark brown. Flies at night from late June to mid-August in woodland and open country with grasses. It can be seen resting by day, especially around the summer houses – drawn by the evening light from the houses.

The caterpillar, a handsome creature with strong colours, feeds on grasses and overwinters as a caterpillar. In spring it is often seen in the plantation, sitting on Common Reed.
